Truth Matters

Kemi Badenoch was interviewed by Laura Kuennsberg on BBC Sunday and stated that she was ‘doing politics differently’…..no she isn’t. She is merely following in the dysfunctional and dangerous footsteps of Farage and Trump.

In her interview she stated that she would abolish the Climate Change Act if/when the Tories got into power. Even ex Prime Minister, Teresa May, stated that it would be a ‘catastrophic mistake’.

Permit me to give you Ms Badenoch’s actual words:

“It is not working. If something isn’t working you should stop it. Just because it says Climate Change Act doesn’t mean it’s stopping Climate Change. We’ve made amendments to that Act to comply with the Paris Agreement. We are the only country in the world that is complying with the Paris Agreement”.

  • UNTRUE – “Complying” involves the submission of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) every five years, which outline each country’s climate goals.
  • In March 2025, it was reported that 15 countries met the deadline for submitting their latest NDCs, with China, India, and Russia being among those that did not submit on time.

“We are losing oil and gas, we are losing ceramics, we are losing car manufacturing, we are losing farming, we are losing fishing. We need to make sure we do not bankrupt the country. I want people in this country to have jobs. People are losing their jobs. We have to do the right thing and not cling to the past for sentimental reasons. We have to demonstrate that we are looking after peoples’ lives”.

Let’s just take one of Badenoch’s claims – “We are losing farming”

UNTRUE – Farming is not being destroyed by climate change policies. The industry is significantly threatened by the impacts of climate  change itself, such as extreme weather, droughts and floods which cause crop failure and reduced agricultural productivity. While some policies aim to curb agricultural emissions and may present challenges, these are intended to build a more resilient and sustainable food system, to mitigate the direct, destructive effects of a warming planet on farming.

  • In 2024 UK farmers lost £1 billion in arable crop income due to the exceptionally wet winter of 2024, primarily impacting wheat, barley, and oilseed rape. This significant income loss, based on Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) data, was caused by reduced output from saturated soils and poor yields, leading to a 20% drop in the main wheat crop and a sharp fall in revenue for other key crops.

  • UK farmers have faced significant financial losses and are worried about future impacts due to the hot and dry summer of 2025, with widespread crop damage, increased costs for livestock feed, and reduced productivity confirmed by surveys and news reports. Extreme weather, intensified by climate change, has caused early and poor harvests, forcing changes in farming practices and raising concerns about long-term viability and food security, according to Farmers Weekly .

Did Ms Kuennsberg challenge any of Badenock’s statements……of course not.
