A Message From Global Justice

Fossil fuel companies have so far made a shocking $80 billion through corporate court cases – often because they allege that government climate action will harm their profits. 2025 has been a record-breaking year for oil, gas and mining companies suing countries for billions more of taxpayers’ money.

UK companies have already pocketed £19 billion in fossil fuel-related cases, including from countries particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change like Bangladesh, Bolivia and Chad. We cannot allow big business to keep seizing piles of public funds that could otherwise be used by governments to tackle climate change.

The surge in claims by fossil fuel firms comes at humanity’s ‘now or never’ moment for keeping global heating below the Paris Agreement target of 1.5C. This is why we’ve put corporate courts – also known as Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) – on the agenda of the COP30 UN climate talks.
